| From a heartfelt thought and (6) committed Committee Members (P.
Dexter, T. Gordon, D. Lebb, W. Taulane, W. Westphal, Helen Drebes) to
numerous volunteers and contributors, the Audubon Memorial Grove was
created. The Audubon Memorial Grove was created in memory of the children
of Audubon who left us too soon. The Camden County Freeholders and Borough
of Audubon dedicated the area on October 31, 1998. The speakers of the day
reflected the true emotion the community feels for the youth of our
community. It is a peaceful, tranquil place to remember the beauty of
these children's lives and to offer comfort to family and
friends.
From the Granite Stones engraved with all of the children's names to Mr. Whalen's Audubon HS Woodshop class constructing the Gazebo with cedar from Haddonfield Lumber, Cabinet Works and Bateman-Collier Lumber Co. A hand-made Plaque was designed and made by R. Gordon, J. Klinger and M. Dexter to the roofing by Dave Adams Roofing in memory of Lori Hollinger. To the Reflection Garden in memory of Bryan Nisenfeld created by Erickson's Landscaping to the beautiful Brick Walkway and patios by Tom and Linda Smith of Complete Maintenance. To the beautiful Angels in memory of Jackie Hirschlein and Jessica Mahn, to the Quansan Cherry Tree in memory of Monica Picking donated by Haviland Avenue '98 3rd grade class with Eaise Landscaping doing the planting. To the truck loads of stone and mulch from DiMedeo Lime and Windzinger Construction to the Borough and Camden County Workers for all their time. The beautiful landscapes came from various nurseries like Magnolia Village Garden, Country Lane and Memories. All of the cement work from Almond Bros. Concrete, JD Lindsley construction, Vineland and Woodbury Concrete. All of this came from the heart of these and many other businesses and individuals made this area possible. Now,
the Philadelphia Institute of Art Industrial Design class is creating and
molding an Angel Ornamental Top for the Gazebo.
The We would like to thank everyone involved in this project and let others know that they can still help by maintaining the area by donating a few hours a year of your time by calling 547-2352. Plans for the Memory Walk have not been finalized, if and when bricks are available we will notify the media. Children of Audubon (under 21) can still be engraved on the granite stone (with family's approval) by calling 547-2352. We know of other Audubon children that have been remembered and missed that should be engraved on the stone, however, we have not received approval from their families. Engraving cost is $65.00 per name. Donations are needed to supplement the cost of engraving and the purchase of an additional stone and other supplies. If you would like to contribute, send check to: Memorial Grove Project, c/o D. Lebb 350 Edgewood Avenue, Audubon, NJ 08106.
